Dr. Benjamin Schlechter is a native of Berks County, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of the University of Health Sciences / The Chicago Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. He completed a residency in General Surgery at Case Western Reserve University and Mount Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He then returned to Chicago to complete his training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Illinois-Chicago and Cook County Hospital. He was chief resident in both his general surgery and plastic surgery residencies.
Dr. Schlechter is board certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is an active member of a number of prestigious societies. This includes the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the Robert H. Ivy Society. He is a member of the Government Relations Committee of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He serves as a Physician Advisor to Surgical Specialties Corporation. He is also a Member of the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, and Berks County Medical Society of which he is a member of the Executive Committee and the Chair of the Physician Advocacy Taskforce.
Dr. Schlechter has authored book chapters and numerous articles in the surgery and plastic surgery literature and has presented his work at regional and national surgical meetings. Dr. Schlechter has been recognized by the hospitals in which he has worked for excellence in his field. Dr Schlechter was the first plastic surgeon in the area to utilize lasers in Plastic Surgery and the first to perform minimally invasive (endoscopic) cosmetic surgery. He is involved in the teaching of other physicians in the proper use of lasers and their application in surgery, as well as, the use of Contour Threads™ for facial rejuvenation.
Dr Schlechter is regarded as the innovator of Contour Threads™. This is a barbed suture used for minimally invasive face lift and brow lift techniques. In conjunction with Surgical Specialties Corporation, Dr Schlechter's work and surgical skills expedited FDA Approval of these revolutionary threads. His midface lift technique is now being taught internationally and his office is a Center of Excellence for Contour Thread™ Instructional Courses.
Dr. Schlechter is on the active medical staff of The Reading Hospital and Medical Center where he is a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics and Trauma Steering Committees. He is Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at St. Joseph's Medical Center and he is the Medical Director of the Reading Surgery Center. His special interests include cosmetic surgery, surgery of the breast and the use of fillers and BOTOX®. His practice offers state of the art equipment, technology, procedures and patient care.
