More than any other facial feature, the eyes have a tremendous impact on your appearance. Women and men who live in Allentown, Reading, and Lancaster have found that blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery can dramatically enhance their appearance and improve their self-confidence. Eyelid surgery may also be indicated if your vision is being affected, and some insurance policies will cover this procedure if your vision is being affected.

What Can I Expect?

Our Lancaster, Allentown and Reading blepharoplasty patients can choose to have surgery for the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Dr. Benjamin Schlechter will help you determine which combination will give you the best result.

The upper eyelid crease can be recreated as it was prior to the development of the excess skin, and the lower eyelids may be treated by making an incision below the eyelashes or inside the eyelid. Laser resurfacing of the lower eyelid skin also can improve dark circles and poor skin quality.

Blepharoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure, typically with twilight anesthesia. The surgery takes from 1 to 2 hours depending on what you and your surgeon have selected. There is some swelling and bruising post-operatively, but in our practice, a laser is used for this procedure, which helps to reduce unwanted aftereffects significantly.

As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks and potential complications. These will be discussed with you in detail prior to surgery. And for your added peace of mind, our trusted anesthesiologist has been with us for more than 14 years.

Eyelid surgery by itself does not remove crow's feet or eliminate dark circles under eyes. BOTOX® Cosmetic can help with lines and wrinkles on the brow and around the edges of the eyes, while skin resurfacing can improve the appearance of the delicate skin below the eye. What you will notice after surgery is how such a small improvement can have such a dramatic impact on your appearance.

Who Gets Eyelid Surgery?

Men and women who are bothered by eyelids that age their faces or interfere with their vision are good candidates for eyelid surgery. While most people choosing blepharoplasty are in their 40s and 50s, if sagging eyelids run in your family, it may be advisable to have surgery at a younger age.
