Laser Vein Treatment
Spider veins (telangiectasias) are the wavy, thin reddish purple veins that are visible most often on the legs. The cause for Spider veins is mainly genetic, but can also be caused by pregnancy, childbirth, birth control medication, estrogen replacement therapy, previous injury or use of steroids. There is nothing to prevent their occurrence. This condition, though not debilitating, may cause one to be self-conscious.

In the past, spider veins were treated with either electrodessication (zapping the vein shut with an electrical current, sometimes leaving scarring), or sclerotherapy (injection of a solution into the vein to make it collapse), but neither were consistently successful. Now there is the VersaPulse® and Polaris Aesthetic Lasers. Using a specific color of laser, (different colors of light are absorbed by specific pigments or colors in the skin) the veins are sealed shut, diminished and reabsorbed into the body. It is not necessary to wrap or elevate the legs following a treatment. Patients typically have no down time as a result of the treatment.
Treatment length is dependent on the size of the area being treated and most patients require multiple visits to achieve a good result. The treatments are administered anywhere from one to two months apart and are performed at the doctor's office. The VersaPulse® and Polaris Aesthetic Lasers feels similar to small snaps from a rubber band. Most patients do not require it, but topical anesthesia is available. Facial vessels are also successfully treated with this laser. This includes the facial redness which occurs from Rosacea.
