ENDOSCOPIC BROWLIFT SURGERY
Whether you are laughing, crying, or even sleeping, your forehead is constantly
moving: unfortunately, all of this activity leaves its mark. Deep forehead
wrinkling and horizontal and vertical frown lines are common problems that can be corrected with a brow lift. Endoscopy is a surgical
procedure that uses an instrument called an endoscope, which is a special
viewing instrument that allows the surgeon to view images of the patient's
internal structures with minimal incisions. This technique is being used
in plastic and cosmetic surgery, in lieu of techniques that may leave
behind undesirable, or overly visible scars.
Endoscopic Brow lift, or forehead lift, is the most common endoscopic
procedure performed by plastic surgeons. Instead of the usual ear-to-ear
incision across the top of the head, three or more tiny incisions are
made just behind the hairline. The endoscope is inserted through a central
incision and the instruments to perform the procedure are placed through
the other incisions. This enables the procedure to be performed without
the need for a big incisionas previously mentioned. The brows are then
elevated and the muscles causing frown lines are treated. This results
in smoother forehead skin, a younger more refreshed look and a more animated
appearance.
Endoscopic surgery complications are rare and it must be noted that endoscopy
has been used successfully for decades in orthopaedic, urologic, and gynecologic
procedures. At the time of the consultation the procedure and potential
complications are discussed in detail. The following diagrams depict the
forehead lift utilizing the traditional "coronal" incision and the newer
endoscopic approach.
BOTOX® COSMETIC INJECTIONS
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections have become a popular new treatment for certain types
of facial wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic acts differently than traditional fillers such
as collagen. BOTOX® acts to temporarily weaken the facial muscles in the
treated area relaxing the skin's surface thus "removing" the wrinkle.
The type of lines and wrinkles that respond best to this procedure are
those muscles that are repeatedly over contracted during facial expressions
such as frowning or squinting. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections have been very effective
in reducing the appearance of frown lines, forehead furrows, "crow's feet",
lines and wrinkles of the lower face, and even prominent vertical bands
in the neck.
The injections take effect in 3 to 5 days, and last between 3 to 6 months.
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections tend to work best on men and women between the ages of
30 and 60. The injections are done in the office, and there is no downtime.
